Now the PS3 is out I was wondering what should the PS4 be like?
I sat down and thought about it for a bit and came up with the notion that it should be based on Ray-tracing, a graphics generation method which looks better than the traditional rasterisation which real time (read gaming) systems do today.
Unfortunately it's incredibly compute intensive so it'll need a lot more computing power than even the PS3's Cell can provide.
It can be accelerated in hardware and there are prototypes that do this. I came up with the idea of modifying a future version of Cell with similar hardware to deliver the computing power necessary.
I wrote up my ideas and put them up on this site in a PDF, it wasn't linked so the only people who know about it are those running wget...

While a number of ideas are suggested it doesn't go into a great deal of detail because I didn't want to spend too much time on it. I can get a bit carried away at times!
There are a number of mistakes and the entire thing isn't as good as it should be. However, a good problem is too good to let go of. I have continued and a much more detailed version 2 is in the works...
